Section 2: Semantic MediaWiki as a platform for developing vocabularies

To discuss any item relating to this page, please use this discussion page.

This section will provide an evaluation of the GBIF Terminology Platform based on Semantic MediaWiki as a tool for managing the development of vocabularies. See also the Introduction to the Terminology Platform.

  1. Test/review the prototype implementation of the Semantic MediaWiki by populating it (at least) with copies of Darwin Core (DONE) and Audubon Core vocabularies (DONE), including translations to other (human) languages (partly done, remainder needs community participation).
  2. Compare the features of Semantic MediaWiki with those available in the GBIF Vocabulary Server. A third prototype system based on ISOcat is also available for reference.
  3. Provide feedback on the suitability, strengths and weaknesses of these software systems for vocabulary development and maintenance in the context of the proposed KOS architecture for TDWG.
