The Nodes Portal Toolkit (NPT) is an ongoing project which aims at offering the community with the means to deploy, extend and maintain a biodiversity Portal. 

Having a strong technical component, the NPT might seem to the community as a complex endeavour (which it is) generating mostly technical documentation at this point, until the actual development starts.

Its important to realize that the vision behind the NPT is also to reduce the digital divide which is more and more appearant among the GBIF community.

To reduce this gap, and to ensure the NPT is picked up by the nodes community, the development strategy is currently being revised, and includes the deployment of a new information website and other communication materials to ensure transparency.

Efforts will be directed towards simpler communication and  fast development of the first version of the NPT, designed to offer GBIF nodes with low technical capacity to setup a basic biodiversity web-portal and obtain web presence. NPT1 will be a set of modules (profile), integrated in a Content Management System (Drupal 7), allowing this fast development and high versatility.
